Install and activate storefront themes
You need permission to manage theme packages. Themes contain executable CFML, so install packages only from sources you trust.
1. Prepare the ZIP
Section titled “1. Prepare the ZIP”Build the theme’s CSS and JavaScript before packaging. The ZIP must contain one top-level directory whose name matches theme.json:
example-theme.zip example/ theme.json pages/index.cfm assets/css/theme.cssInstall any declared parent theme first. The default theme is supplied by NetSeller.
2. Upload the package
Section titled “2. Upload the package”Open Settings → Theme packages, select the ZIP and choose Install. The installed theme appears in the list. Uploading a new ZIP with the same key updates an uploaded theme; keep the previous ZIP if you may need to roll back.
Theme packages are stored outside the Core deployment directory. A normal NetSeller update does not remove them. Review theme compatibility when the storefront contract changes.
On installations where an older reference folder still appears as a built-in theme, uploading the current reference ZIP moves that folder out of the Core theme directory. Shops assigned to reference keep their theme selection.
3. Activate it for a shop
Section titled “3. Activate it for a shop”- Open Shop management and select the shop.
- Choose the installed theme under Storefront theme.
- Save and reload that shop’s storefront.
Each shop has its own theme selection. Uploading the ZIP does not activate it automatically.
Update, roll back or remove
Section titled “Update, roll back or remove”For an update, upload a complete ZIP with the same key. Update asset URL version suffixes in the manifest when file contents change. To roll back, upload the previous ZIP again or select another theme for the shop.
You can remove an uploaded theme after no shop uses it and no other installed theme declares it as a parent. Built-in themes cannot be removed through the package manager.
Troubleshooting
Section titled “Troubleshooting”| Symptom | Check |
|---|---|
| Theme is missing from the selection | Valid ZIP structure, matching directory and manifest key, and installed parent theme. |
| Another shop still shows the old design | Assign the theme to that shop separately. |
| A template override is ignored | Match the logical path and filename from the template reference. |
| A stylesheet or script returns 404 | Use a supported theme asset route and include the file in the ZIP. |
| The old style remains visible | Rebuild the asset bundle, update its URL version suffix and reload the page. |
